WHAT'S POP'N V43
Issue 43
V43 has shuffled the deck, opened the treasure chest and arrived carrying far too many exciting things for one pair of hands.
We kick things off with a funky new Pandemic-inspired track before racing through closing pre-orders, fresh releases to put on the radar, Windy Wonder Deals, clearance discoveries and a lively batch of new arrivals ready to earn their shelf space.
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans are especially well fed this issue. Magnificent Monsters gets a dedicated collector spotlight, while Stefan takes us deeper into its November follow-up, Magnificent Maestros, complete with reimagined anime cards, extended art, Grand Master Rares, foil upgrades and returning Toon favourites. Terry then opens a portal to Azeroth with Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, and Etienne charts the next hyperspace jump for Star Wars™: Unlimited with Homeworlds and Icons.
Marketing Corner celebrates Women’s Day in South Africa by spotlighting women whose designs have become modern tabletop staples, and Sock Spot closes the issue with a burst of Looney Tunes colour, character and wearable chaos. There is plenty to browse, plenty to plan for and more than a few products ready to make some noise. Let’s get Pop’n!
Now Playing: One More Cure
Greetings folks! I took some inspiration from SUNO itself for this song, and apparently Electro Rock Funk is a thing. This track takes the co-operative tension of Pandemic and gives it a bright, funky jolt: urgent enough for outbreak panic, groovy enough to keep the table moving, and just weird enough to make the genre name feel earned.
One More Cure is all about racing the clock, sharing the right cards at the right moment and finding that final cure before the board erupts into glorious cardboard chaos. Queue it up for your next co-op game night and let the bassline carry the cure. 😊

Magnificent Monsters brings the first six Yu-Gi-Oh! anime eras together in one premium release, reimagining iconic hero cards from Yugi, Jaden, Yusei, Yuma, Yuya and Playmaker. It is a nostalgia bridge for long-time fans, a chase-card engine for collectors and a strong conversation starter for retailers looking to connect players across generations.
A Timeline Through Six Yu-Gi-Oh! Eras
Magnificent Monsters lines up six anime generations in one collector-focused release, turning the set into a playable archive of Yu-Gi-Oh! history. Each era brings a different kind of fan memory with it: Yugi’s spellcaster legacy, Jaden’s HERO energy, Yusei’s Synchro speed, Yuma’s Numbers, Yuya’s Pendulum spectacle and Playmaker’s Cyberse future.

Games Designed by Women: Shelf Stories Worth Celebrating
Honouring Women’s Day Through Play
South Africa marks Women’s Day on 9 August, remembering the women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956 and honouring the ongoing impact of women across every part of society. For us, the tabletop version of that celebration is simple: put more light on the women whose ideas have shaped the games customers love.
Women-designed games are not a side note in the hobby. They are award winners, gateway hits, family staples and strategy favourites. They build communities at demos, convert browsers into buyers and keep coming back to the table because the design work is clear, welcoming and quietly clever.
For retailers, this gives Women’s Month an easy, meaningful story: create a Games Designed by Women shelf talker, pair it with learn-to-play demos and give customers a reason to discover the designers behind the boxes.
|
|
|
|
This Women’s Day, the celebration can live right on the shelf: Qwirkle by Susan McKinley Ross, Wingspan by Elizabeth Hargrave, Wyrmspan by Connie Vogelmann and Point Salad, co-designed by Molly Johnson, all show how women designers continue to shape games that are easy to teach, rewarding to replay and strong enough to become long-term favourites. Honourable mentions worth keeping in the wider conversation include titles such as Mariposas, Tussie Mussie, Verdant and The Fox Experiment when available.
Women’s Day is a reminder that representation is not abstract: it is visible in the products we choose to spotlight, the stories we tell at the table and the creators we help customers discover. These games make the celebration practical, positive and easy to activate in-store, while honouring designers whose work has helped shape the modern board game shelf.

Wizards of the Coast Announces Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft
Last weekend saw tabletop gamers of all backgrounds descend on Indianapolis for Gen Con, one of the hobby’s longest-running conventions. Fittingly, the event became the stage for one of the biggest Dungeons & Dragons announcements in recent memory: World of Warcraft is officially crossing into D&D.
While D&D has crossed over with other IPs before, the Universes Beyond label shows that this will be a major part of the brand strategy going forward. It also feels like a natural direction, as dungeon masters have been working their favourite worlds into D&D campaigns for decades already.
Azeroth At The TableThe World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion opens the door to character options inspired by Azeroth, including 11 new species, fresh subclasses and updates to existing ones for players who want their next campaign to feel proudly Warcraft-shaped. | Big Adventure HooksMore than 60 spells, iconic locations, dungeon inspiration and familiar bosses give Dungeon Masters a strong toolbox for building Warcraft-flavoured adventures without losing the flexibility of Dungeons & Dragons. |
|
|
|
As part of the same announcement, D&D head Dan Ayoub also laid out the 2027 release schedule, including in-universe settings for old-school fans and another Universes Beyond setting from a galaxy far, far away. Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft is available to pre-order now and is scheduled to release in November 2026.

The DM Screen and Map Pack extend the range beyond the core books, giving stores useful companion products to merchandise alongside the main release.
ETIENNE'S CORNER
Star Wars™: Unlimited Q4 Preview
Greetings everyone! We are being spoiled this Q4 with not one, but two exciting releases for Star Wars™: Unlimited. In this Content Corner, I want to give you a closer look at both upcoming sets, because each one brings new cards and gameplay ideas that should make a big impact on the game.
Homeworlds | Set 9 | Releases 9 October 2026
Homeworlds shifts the spotlight to iconic planets, alien creatures and the invading forces they must defend against. The set introduces two brand-new token types and the new Fortify keyword, allowing players to upgrade their bases for the first time and opening up fresh strategic space.
Homeworlds will have the same core configuration as previous sets, with a Booster Display, Carbonite Booster Display, Spotlight Deck Display and Pre-Release Kit available for stores and players to plan around.
|
|
|
|
FortifyThe headline mechanic attaches upgrades directly to your base instead of a unit. Bases can gain ongoing abilities, improve defences, unlock synergies and become part of your deck’s main plan. | Weakness TokensWeakness tokens work as the opposite of Experience tokens, reducing a unit’s effectiveness and giving control decks a new way to soften enemy threats without relying only on direct damage. |
Beast TokensBeast tokens support the set’s planet-and-wildlife focus, giving the expansion a creature-driven identity and opening space for swarm, pressure and temporary ally strategies. | Grand Moff TarkinAt 9 resources, Tarkin transforms into the Death Star, becoming a space-unit leader with a dramatic late-game win condition that can defeat an opposing base with 10 or fewer HP. |
Chewbacca’s New PlaystyleChewbacca pushes a tempo-focused Heroism strategy by letting friendly units attack even while exhausted. That can let newly played units attack immediately, reuse strong “On Attack” abilities and work around exhaustion drawbacks. | |
Homeworlds releases worldwide on 9 October 2026, with Pre-Release events beginning from 2 October 2026. Players should reach out to their FLGS to check whether their local store will be hosting a pre-release event.
Icons 2027 Edition | Releases 20 November 2026
Icons is a compact mini-set designed to be a strong entry point for new players while still giving veterans plenty of reasons to expand their collections. With more than 190 cards, it celebrates iconic heroes, villains, ships and moments from across the Star Wars galaxy.
The set includes reprinted common and uncommon cards to help teach the game’s core mechanics, while every Rare and Legendary card is brand new. Alongside the mini-set, Fantasy Flight Games is releasing a Starter Box featuring Darth Vader and Leia Organa as the featured leaders.
The Starter Box uses a guided, step-by-step experience, gradually expanding two starter decks with non-randomized deckbuilding packs before rewarding players with booster packs to begin building their own collections.
|
|
|
With its lower-priced booster packs, streamlined mechanics and focus on legendary Star Wars characters, Icons is built to be one of the most accessible products the game has released, making it ideal for introducing friends and family while still delivering fresh cards for experienced players.
ICONS releases worldwide on 20 November 2026. And there you have it, folks. Lots of new and exciting things are heading to Star Wars: Unlimited in Q4. Enjoy! 😊
SOCK SPOT!
Looney Tunes Have Escaped Into the Sock Drawer
That’s all, folks... except the socks have only just begun. The Looney Tunes range turns Bugs Bunny’s effortless cool, Daffy Duck’s glorious drama, Tweety’s innocent troublemaking and the rest of the animated crew into bright, character-packed pairs made for gifting, collecting and adding a little cartoon energy to everyday outfits. Recognisable across generations and wonderfully easy to merchandise, these designs can catch the eye of nostalgic adults, younger fans and shoppers hunting for a playful add-on gift. They are wearable punchlines with plenty of shelf appeal, ready to hop, spin and zoom straight into customers’ baskets.
And with that, V43 pulls the curtain closed. From premium Yu-Gi-Oh! collector releases and galaxy-sized Star Wars: Unlimited previews to new arrivals, retail opportunities and a final burst of Looney Tunes colour, this issue has delivered plenty to place on shelves, share with customers and keep on the radar. Until the next edition, keep the displays fresh, the pre-orders moving and the happiness popping.
